Acoustic Vents: Enhancing Sound Quality and Device Protection

Acoustic metamaterials are a special class of synthetic composite materials characterized by specific acoustic properties. They can create sound wave control effects that could not be obtained with conventional materials. By engineering a certain structure of metamaterials, functions of the directional transmission of sound, sound insulation and sound absorption can be realized. The materials typically comprise resonant cavities arranged periodically with each unit having air vent for flow through the centers, and to enable effective sound wave manipulation, having identical geometric shapes (for instance star-shaped opening).
